Celebrations Abound at Polson!

So many fun goings on at Polson these days! Here is a sampling of what has been happening here...

Our apple eating count these days is high thanks to The Food Sharing Project's provision of fresh and local apples! Students have really been enjoying these as a healthy and fibre-filled snack. Mme Cotnam even brought one in to each student in hers and Mme Emilie's class one day this past week! She reported that students all enjoyed them and that the jolt of energy right off the hop in the morning started their day off in such a good way.

Our Queen's Sports Buddies soccer intramurals have been a huge success! Games are ongoing on Tuesdays and Fridays with four teams in each division (primary and junior). We have 47 students in the primary division and 50 students in the junior division who have signed up. Twice a week Queen's volunteers come to referee and coach games and we are thankful to them for their generosity and positivity.

The Bantam Girls Cross-Country Running Team brought home second place at the District Championships last week at Fort Henry. Way to go, speedy ladies! (And way to go to all of our amazing Panthers who represented Polson oh so well!)

Mme Marshall will begin her parental leave soon and Ms. Chanook's class celebrated her pending departure with a baby shower last week. There were snacks and crafts and good wishes for Mme and baby.

From the City of Kingston:

E-scooters are easy to find, but they aren't toys and aren't designed for kids. In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old to ride wherever e-scooters are permitted.
In Kingston, e-scooters are not currently permitted. The City is developing a Micromobility Regulations Strategy — with updated rules around e-scooters, e-bikes and other lightweight, rideable transportation — to support safe, accessible and sustainable travel around Kingston. The strategy, which considers public engagement feedback and research into best practices, will be presented to Council for consideration later this year.

Human Development and Sexual Health

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.
