Polson Panthers Get Muddy, Wet, and HAVE SO MUCH FUN at Regional LESAA Fort Henry Cross-Country Meet!
On Tuesday October 13th, a bus full of eager Panthers made their way to Fort Henry for the annual cross-country meet. A whopping 65 (!!!) positive Panthers from Grades 3 to 6 participated in the meet with 17 placing in the top 30 in their race to make it to the District Championships this week on Tuesday.
Bantam Boys and Girls (some...not all)
To put our school's participant number into perspective, Polson has 226 students in Grades 3 to 6. That means that nearly one third of students in these grades showed up for race day! Results ranged from top 10 to middle of the pack to finished it and that is AMAZING, but the most important thing is that these kids showed up with Panther pride and ran their hearts out! We are proud of all of our athletes and grateful to our cross-country running coaches: M. Ormiston, Mme Salsbury, Ms. Pharoah, Mme Ormiston, and Mme Samantha. Thank you also to all of the family members and friends who showed up to cheer everyone on. Good luck to our district runners! We are rooting for you! Run your hearts out!

Orange and Black Day (Polson's New Hallowe'en Celebration)
New this year: Polson will be recognizing Hallowe'en as a school community with Orange and Black Day rather than a dress-up day with costumes on Friday October 30th. We know this is a shift here and we appreciate your openness in proceeding in this more inclusive way. Please know that we are also eager to celebrate Hallowe'en at the SAC dance on the 29th and that costumes are welcome there.
Why Orange and Black Day?
- Considered an inclusive alternative
- Removes financial, cultural, safety barriers
- Spirit Days should ensure and create a sense of belonging for all students
- Removes pressures felt by families (time, financial, planning, etc.)
- Focusing on festive autumn colors instead of Hallowe'en itself allows children from diverse cultural backgrounds to take part in school spirit without compromising their beliefs
- Less distracting for the learning environment
- Fewer risks of cultural misappropriation

From the City of Kingston:
E-scooters are easy to find, but they aren't toys and aren't designed for kids. In Ontario, you must be at least 16 years old to ride wherever e-scooters are permitted.
In Kingston, e-scooters are not currently permitted. The City is developing a Micromobility Regulations Strategy — with updated rules around e-scooters, e-bikes and other lightweight, rideable transportation — to support safe, accessible and sustainable travel around Kingston. The strategy, which considers public engagement feedback and research into best practices, will be presented to Council for consideration later this year.
Human Development and Sexual Health
As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8. Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.
