Early Reading Screener SK-Grade 2
Students in Year 2 Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 will undergo an Early Reading Screener to assess their reading skills, as mandated by the Ministry of Education. This screening aims to monitor reading development, identify students needing extra support, and guide teaching methods.
- Early Reading Screener introduction: The screener is conducted one-on-one with a teacher early in the school year and evaluates foundational reading skills like letter and sound recognition without requiring any preparation.
- Purpose and support: The screening helps identify children who may struggle with reading so that additional support can be provided to help them improve and keep up with their peers.
- Communication with families: Teachers will share screening results and discuss each child's reading strengths and needs with families, including updates in report cards, to ensure ongoing support and collaboration.
E-mails containing more detailed information about Early Reading Screening went out on Friday, September 26th to K-2 families. If your child is in SK –grade 2 and you did not receive this information letter, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
