Dear Polson Park Families,
As we prepare to welcome students and families back to school on Wednesday, September 2, we want to share an important update about parking routines. This change is being made with student, family, staff, and pedestrian safety in mind, especially in the area west of our school that borders the kindergarten yard and portable area.
Over the summer, we have been thinking about the safety of the parking lot area to the west of our school that borders the kindergarten yard as well as our portable area.
If you drive your student(s) to or from school, you will notice that the west parking lot is now designated for Staff Only Parking. Families may continue to use the quick “kiss and go” area for student drop-off only. There is no visitor parking space in that lot. We appreciate your understanding as we make this adjustment, which is a safety solution being used successfully at many LDSB schools.
We encourage families who can walk, wheel, bike, carpool, or use the bus to consider those options whenever possible. For families who need to drive, the following parking options may be helpful.
To help with drop-off and pick-up, families may find parking in the following areas:
- Parking lot to the east of the school (beside tennis courts)
- Parking lot off Portsmouth near the Skate Park
- Street parking on neighbouring streets such as Richardson and Runnymede
- Accessible parking spaces will continue to be available for families
Please continue to watch for the signage on Robert Wallace Drive, where buses pick up and drop off students. Keeping this bus zone clear helps our buses arrive and leave safely, and we ask that families avoid stopping or parking in that area.
Polson Park was originally built with walking and buses in mind. As vehicle traffic around the school continues to grow, we are asking everyone to work together to keep students, families, staff, and pedestrians safe.
We know this is a new process and that it may add time to your drop-off and pick-up routines. Thank you for your patience and care as we make this adjustment together. If you would like to discuss your family’s particular needs or possible solutions, your administrators, Sara Wellwood and Tiiu Vail, would be happy to connect with you. Accessible parking spaces will continue to be available for staff and families.
Sincerely,
Sara Wellwood and Tiiu Vail
