Panthers Play CLAW-somely at LESAA Soccer Tournament

Big time and huge time congratulations to our Grade 6 Panther athletes who played with grit, determination, heart, and skills at the Junior LESAA Soccer Tournament. Polson Park entered one co-ed team this year and everyone shone as brightly as the sun did last Tuesday September 22nd at La Salle ISS' field. Brows were sweaty, faces got a little burned by sun and wind, snacks were happily shared, and points were scored! Student athletes represented our school with enthusiasm and, according to Coach Ducharme, "By the last game players were communicating, passing, and scoring (LOTS!)" Bien joué tout le monde! Nous sommes vraiment fiers de votre esprit et de vos efforts! Merci également à nos entraîneuses dévouées, Mme Carew et Mme Ducharme.

La Journée des Franco-Ontariens et des Franco-Ontariennes à l’École Polson Park

Cette année à Polson, nous avons célébré la Journée des Franco-Ontariens et des Franco-Ontariennes (le 25 septembre) avec un spectacle de musique dans la portative 4 pour les élèves de la classe de M. Parker et de Mme Marshall. Moonfruits est un ensemble de trois personnes qui vient de Ottawa et les élèves ont bien aimé les chansons qui ont été interprétées et ont même eu la chance de participer en chantant un canon avec le groupe. Merci à M. Parker pour l’organisation de cet événement.
This year at Polson we celebrated Franco-Ontarian Day on the 25th of september with a concert in portable 4 for students in M. Parker's and Mme Marshall's class. Moonfruits is a band made up of three people who are from Ottawa and students loved the songs that were performed and even had the chance to participate in singing a canon with the group. Thank you so much to M. Parker for organizing this event.

Lunch Is Ready! Update

The Food Sharing Project's Lunch Is Ready program begins this week with sample days! For the next three Fridays (Oct. 2/Oct. 9/Oct. 16), students can have a *small* sample before families/caregivers commit to a weekly Lunch Is Ready lunch! (You won't be sad if you do, however! So delicious! So nutritious! We are oh so lucky to have this initiative at Polson!) NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP FOR SAMPLE DAYS! You DO, however, need to sign your child up to receive a regular Friday Lunch Is Ready lunch after Oct. 16! Registration opens on Monday Sept. 21 and closes on Friday Oct. 9. Students who register will receive a nutritious meal once per week, including a main course, fruit, and milk. Meals will be delivered to the school every Friday starting October 23 through December 18. When placing your order, you will have the option to contribute toward the cost of the meals. Meals are valued at $4 each ($36 for 9 weeks). Open House

Our Open House will take place on Thursday, October 1st, from 4:30-5:30 pm. Families will get to meet teachers, tour classrooms, dance outside with Queen's Dancers, register for Lunch Is Ready, and get support with School Day and other online tools for families. We can't wait to see you at school with your awesome students!

From our K-12 Indigenous Education and Reconciliation Lead, Ms. DiRocco:
"As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 30th, we are reminded of our collective responsibility to engage in learning about the Residential School System and the true history of relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in what is currently known as Canada. This day invites us to honour the children who never returned home, stand with Survivors, and recommit ourselves to meaningful reconciliation in our classrooms and communities." National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day is on Wednesday September 30th. Please wear orange as a show of understanding, solidarity, and support.

The Polson Park Terry Fox Marathon of Hope will be held on Thursday October 1st, 2:25pm-3:25pm. Families/caregivers are welcome to join - educators will be communicating what route they will be taking to their classroom community. Thank you to Ms. Blommesteyn (Ms. B.) for coordinating these important efforts at Polson this year.

The next SAC meeting (School Advisory Council) will be on Wednesday October 7th at 6pm in Mme Carew's classroom.

Get those beautiful smiles primed and ready for Picture Day on Wednesday October 14th.

Cross country running meets (interested students in Grades 3 to 6) are coming up in October - Tuesday 13th for Regionals and Tuesday 20th for Districts for qualifying student athletes. You will have received information through School Day about the meets and fees.

Running and Reading Club will begin on Thursday October 22nd from 3:35pm-5:35pm. Registration information is forthcoming and will be available to the school community at the beginning of October.
